Congress President Welcome Message
Dear Colleagues, Selamat Datang’ (Welcome). On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to cordially invite you to attend the virtual APCB2021 (9th Asian Pacific Congress on Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology) from October 8th to 10th, 2021.
This biennial congress is hosted by the Malaysian Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (MABIP) under the auspices of the Asian Pacific Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (APAB) and the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP).
After much deliberation and given the uncertainties of the months ahead due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the organizing committee has decided to conduct a virtual congress. While we know that everyone looks forward to the APCB where we get a chance to meet up with old friends, make new ones and exchange ideas in a convivial ambience, the risks of travel and mass gatherings at this time are too high and therefore we have taken this decision reluctantly because it is the socially responsible thing to do.
The past few decades have seen many innovations in respiratory endoscopy and interventional pulmonology. It is wonderful that many countries in the Asian Pacific region have embraced interventional pulmonology and are capable of offering minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to their patients as offered in developed countries.
Therefore, we shall be inviting many global experts to share their expertise and latest procedures with the delegates. By sharing knowledge, skills and expertise, many more patients in this region will benefit from minimally invasive procedures.
The Scientific Committee will do their utmost to ensure an exciting program which will include didactic lectures, satellite symposia, case-based discussion, pro and con debates, virtual hands-on workshops, free papers and video festival.
Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying parts of the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It’s known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultural influences. Kuala Lumpur or KL is home to colonial buildings, busy shopping districts such as Bukit Bintang and sky scrapers such as the iconic 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers.
Welcome to the 9th APCB.
We look forward to seeing you on the virtual congress.
Jamalul Azizi Abdul Rahaman, MD
Congress President of 9th APCB
Head, Department of Pulmonology
